It's not a problem, usually, until you have Jewish guests over, and then end up trying to puzzle it out. Standard gelatin is porcine, so that's out no matter what. It's possible to buy gelatin made from bovine sources, and kosherized. That works until you want to serve a dish containing milk or eggs, and then you're out of luck again.
